THE EDUCATION 20 YEARS FROM NOW. COLOMBIA

INTRODUCTION
It is known that the level of the education in Colombia is lowest than the level in other develop places in the world.  Also, it is known there are big efforts in the government of Colombia to improve the education level and this efforts follow the politics and the experiences of other countries with successful results like the OECD countries (Publishing, 2013).   But, in 20 years, what will be a successful result in education for Colombia?  Trying to get a reply for this question, I consulted several sources and I have found good news for our future generations.

A NICE FUTURE FOR ALL.  COLOMBIA, THE BEST EDUCATED
Weeks ago, I was at one of the laboratories of the Antioquia University with two PhD´s analyzing a topic of my work.  One of them was old man with almost 80 years (I did need much experience), the other, a young woman with less than 30. Casually, this couple could be a sample of this kind of people in the country, considering the age and gender.    While we were working, we talked about the situation for the PhD´s in Colombia: There are not enough places to work in the companies for a PhD person and the salaries are so low considering the time, the effort for this kind of education and the specialization of the knowledge.    I thought at first, I agree, Colombia has a big problem spending a lot of money in PhD´s that leave the country searching work relating with their knowledge and well paid.   But later I thought, there is something wrong in this idea.  The PhD formation has a weakness, because this people know much about their topics, but they don´t know how to take advantage of their knowledge in the land of the opportunities.  This could be a result of the low level of the education in Colombia, even the PhD´s have their problem.

Fortunately, (I am optimistic) this situation could be changed in the future.  No for the next year, but in 20 years could be so different with the work that the government in Colombia is doing.

When people imagine the education in 20 years, they could be focusing in the changes in the technology.  I believe that the technology will have an important role in the education in the future and it is difficult imagine how will specifically be, because it changes so fast every day (Cromwell, 1998).

But, there are several important things to considerer for the education more than the technology evolution.  I think that is more interesting the question, what will people learn in 20 years?  Now, there are a lot of information and a lot of ways to get it but the competences to analyzing it and proposing something with basic information are poor.

In the future, I think that people will learn to create knowledge with support of the teachers and with basic information, the teachers will stimulate the innovation competence and the motivation for the entrepreneurship; the teamwork and the practicing of the social skill in several simulated environments will be important; the assessment of the level of the knowledge will be made testing the performance of the students when they attempt to solve the problems of the real world. (Cromwell, 1998).

This kind of model of education is worked for the OECD (Publishing, 2013).  It wouldn’t be the best of the world, but it is better than the Colombian model.  The OECD studies about the education show how it is direct related with the levels of economic development of the countries and how it helps with reducing the level of inequality between people. (Publishing, 2013).  Colombia has objectives related with the education politics of the OECD and UN (Publishing, 2013) (UN, 2016).  Because that, Colombia has done the PISA test in the last years (Republica, 2014).  Now, Colombia has a low (almost the worst) level in the education ranking of the countries, but there is a strong decision of the government for working hard to achieve a better education as a factor to improving the economic conditions of our country in the future.   Because of, the government is working in several topics like: building more schools to have students studying more time at day; increasing the knowledge and skills of the teachers and made assessment to them; supporting the teaching of English for linking people with the world; and supporting economically people with high performance and little money to study (MINEDUCACION, 2016).  This is, definitely, the way to a better education for our country, then in 20 years we could see the results of this huge effort.  The PhDs of the future could be happy enjoying in their own country a work well paid for their specialized knowledge.  And it is possible that this work could be in their own company.

CONCLUSION
All in all, Colombia is in the way of changing the model of education.  Colombia wants to be the best educated country in Latino America.  The successful of this effort we could see in the future in the economic results and the values of people.  Our people will learn to be more human, efficient, critic, considerer with our environment, innovator and entrepreneur.  There won´t be more people that won’t know what to do with their knowledge.
